The video comments in question came from a 2017 interview on the Cable News Network in which McMullin commented on the deadly violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA. The challenger has been posting daily attacks on Lee’s integrity and effectiveness in Washington via social media. McMullin is involved in a heated race for the Senate seat now occupied by incumbent Mike Lee (R-UT). The McMullin campaign filed suit because it had failed to convince local TV stations to pull that ad which it called “… deceptive and defamatory.” ![]() The Club for Growth, lawyers for the McMullin campaign argued, has a history of doctoring political ads. The television ad - one of many funded by the Washington-based conservative political action committee to influence voters in the upcoming election – contends that McMullin called all Republicans racists and bigots. In addition to naming the ad’s creators – the right-wing national Club for Growth – the McMullin lawsuit also names television stations KUTV, KTVX and Fox 13 and their parent companies as defendants. “(Sen.) Mike Lee’s special interest friends are lying about me because I won’t take their money and, unlike Mike Lee, they can’t buy my vote,” McMullin countered in his posts. McMullin called the ad an “an egregious lie” on Facebook and other social media posts attempting to set the record straight, according to his campaign.
